I know I’ve been a bit quiet here, but it’s the first Friday of June, which for the last 4 years has been known as Hug an Atheist Day!
So I am happy to present to you today a teaser of the film that you’ve been supporting. I had hoped to be able to present the final film to you today, but the filming schedule took longer than was originally planned. When I first drafted the plans for Hug an Atheist, the filming schedule would have been completed in January. I could however not pass up the opportunity to go to the American Atheist Convention in Austin, Texas around Easter, this ensured I could interview many more interesting people, all in one place!
If anyone is doubting whether the American Atheist Convention is worth going to, I can say yes, yes it is! The talks are obviously very interesting, but the convention is about so much more. The social aspect of the convention alone is worth the trip. It’s amazing how welcoming everybody is and how much support there is out there, especially for those who are new to atheism. I took my husband along to the convention, and even though he’s been an atheist as long as I have, he came out of the whole experience very invigorated and with a whole new look on Atheism.
So the final delivery has been pushed back to September. And all being well, it will have its premiere at the Atheist Film Festival in San Francisco!
I would also like to thank all the people who’ve been so kind to help out in the making of this documentary. There have been many laughs and quite a few tears too. The openness with which people have shared their stories has been truly heart-warming and will make for a more engaging, emotional and genuine documentary film than I could have imagined when I embarked on this project.
